Are You Enlightened Because of Your Experience?
I noticed that there are people on the spiritual path that think they are realized when something unusual happens to them, but this is common on the spiritual path. The mind and the ego can conspire to create all sorts of visions, sounds, and body reactions out of fear and want. Also, spiritual experiences vary dramatically between people, but enlightenment remains the same, eternally unchanged. You can analyze these experiences yourself by following a few guidelines, and if you answer yes to any of these questions you did not experience the ultimate state of being and you are not realized, and must continue with your pursuit.
Did you have to research it, or ask someone to help you?
Was there form, color, any sounds or movement in your vision?
Did you think for a moment: What was that? Did I fall asleep? Did I hallucinate? What happened? and Why?
Was the lighting in your vision normal or have too much light? Or was it pitch black?
Was there any body convulsions, shaking or any other sensory feelings involved?
You can't remember what happened?
Do you still take medication for depression or do you suffer bouts of depression and mania?
Real Enlightenment is a total surrendering indicated by a smooth transition that is feelingless. Body movement (shaking) is an indication of resistance, an internal tug of war between the individual perceiving point in the mind, and the Soul's perceiving point in the rear most position. These experiences are what I like to call a partial surrendering, and this can bring in some insight that wasn't there before (like Tolle), but it is not true Enlightenment. I had two of these partial surrendering before my Self-Realization, but I heeded my teacher's advice and shelved it until I witnessed the Truth. Once that happens to you, you realize that it is impossible to doubt, the thought itself doesn't even come up. In this attribute less realm you know exactly where you are, and what's happening (if you can call it that), and it is absolutely doubtless. To doubt would be the ultimate sin, because doubting the Almighty you negate all of life as well as your soul and others. That is why it is impossible to doubt.
