The Mind

The mind has two basic modes of operation in spirituality, and they are known as the doer, and the witness. The doer is our ego, which is the cycling of thoughts that we identify with. This is the normal functioning of the mind after it gets developed. The witness is the pauses or gaps in-between the thinking, when we are in the moment, observing, but not thinking. These empty pauses are usually not noticeable, but they are there, and you can prolong them if you give it your attention. In our natural state we are Eternally Aware, but when we are bound to the body via the witness (consciousness), the world and the words take over. The mind is fully activated and the chatter is witnessed, and the thoughtless witness is now a latent virtue, but always present. Meditation is the technique that brings the pure witness back to the front of the line, where it was earlier in your life. The active mind of the doer is usually counterproductive, because the inactive mind of the pure witness is the closes representative to your natural state of being.

Prolong periods of sitting as the witness brings about the "Samadhi state", which is the last step before enlightenment. It can happen if it is not forced and happens naturally, but this is after along earnest effort at achieving intimacy with the Samadhi state. You stand back (within) and witness the energy running through the body, and slowly release your grip, loosing your hold on everything including the witness, and wait faithfully. That which focuses attention is prior to attention. The mind is not you, you are before it. Directing your attention away from the world and thoughts, thus relying on no external or internal support the Self falls back onto itself. The mind’s ego is our biggest problem, because it clings to concepts that are tying us down. Contemplation aligned with meditation is the path, and the mind will make up excuses to quit, or stealthily sabotage your plan, enabling it to stay afloat (in charge). Changing the belief system to be in tune with the truth means you have to change the inner dialog, and ignoring the minds rhetoric. That doer which takes all the merits and hands out demerits is the culprit, because it’s always in the way exercising control.

Meditation puts you face to face with your seemingly uncontrollable dilemma, and you enter the battle field to take back home court advantage. Your Awareness of the situation is important, because you need to know your enemy inside and out. I can guarantee you that the mind is not you, and you are more than that temporary attribute that decays, and finding that out for yourself is taking back home court advantage. Liberation is the end of the game that gives you the edge over the mind and the doer. The door to Eternity depends on you, by surrendering the world, your mind, and consciousness is the key that opens it. The mind will hold you captive until you decide to break free from it by attacking its resources (energy) with meditation, and giving it a new directive with positive contemplation. This hit at the supply line, and the new laws laid down in the heart of the control center is how you win the battle with the mind. Remember it runs on energy so any forcible measures or forced repression will just add fuel to the fire.
