They’re saying choose the dark, because of the non-dualistic nature of darkness and its similar to the Aware state, and they’re right, because the light is full of images and duality. Its similar to the meditative state when we’re choosing darkness over lit images, which makes it a non-dualistic act. Focusing your attention on the darkness should work if its in some constant form in the afterlife, because your surrendering your involvement with the images and the darkness will eventually give way, but to what?. Remember, you are before the darkness and in the afterlife the darkness is a good step, however I’m not sure the darkness is available like that, and my experiences with lucid dreaming tell me that it will change into images. The black areas morph into more images after a while and I believe it’s due to the Self lit nature of the dream, and the same holds true for the afterlife. The Light of Awareness is always there and it brings things into constant view while connected to energy, so I don’t think you’ll be able to hang on to the darkness for very long, and even when it’s completely dark its still part of the same energy field. The black is involved in the same process as the displaying of images that happen upon it, so choosing it will activate images, because the black here is not pure Awareness like in Eternity, for there you can see right through it like its hallow, and its pure Awareness without the threat of images. Any darkness after that is part of the particle illusion that covers the real Eternal Reality, so you’ll have to retreat further than the darkness.

The pure Light of Awareness or the light of the dark Void, is light in its still embryonic stage before morphing into moving energy, so there is no movement or complete darkness there. I think you’ll have a hard time hanging onto or finding the dark in the afterlife. I think finding darkness only becomes easy when you’re attached to the brain and eyes. In the after death state the mind goes on without the brain and its reflected by the images appearing before you, and these forms represent your attachments.

Their statement reminds me of the Tibetan Book of the Dead, but I think they say choose nothing, not the light nor the dark, which I have a tendency to agree with more, so with this advise you should withdraw your attention away from all of it until it completely vanishes and you’re in Absolute space. Darkness is an elusive background that maybe hard or impossible to find in the afterlife, and choosing the dark is still choosing duality, because of its relationship with energy.

I was reading this blog article and was curious if at the time of death can we consciously choose either light or dark, and what happens after we choose the dark (pure awareness) ?http://nonduality.org/2009/02/09/lucid-dreaming-facing-the-dark-areas/

It is indeed taking me a long time to get the full import of not identifying with the mind. But it helps to know once more the knowing of the Self as beyond the knowing of the mind. Knowing these basic truths at the level of the mind, even though so nowhere near the Ultimate knowing of the Self, still adds learning to the way I view life. Thankyou so very much for your gracious answers.

No, the mind can’t see reality only the naked Self can see reality, but the mind is affected by it when the Self is identified. This brings me to my next post The Mind and Knowing, which may answer some of your questions. I appreciate the questions for they help me find areas where I loose people and it gives me something to write about.

it is clear now, thankyou. Yeah, the mind has a mind of it's own! as I'm finding out many challenges I would otherwise neve know I had.

Another question I had was, is it the mind that perceives Reality, and if so why is the experience considered beyond the mind ?

The shift in my attention or my Awareness which is focused back onto its Self is the path taken through meditation, and after a sufficient time spent there (Samadhi state) brings about Self-realization.

In the formless state of Absolute space or when we are in our pure form we are in Eternity, and we have the ability to direct our attention in that state, by focusing our attention away from the foreground (God, Absolute space) and into the background we in turn bring about a new birth, which is very similar to the same way we attain enlightenment.

My transition was quick when I came back, but very hard in getting ‘There’. I think that’s due to the connection to the mind, which makes it a struggle, however I feel the transition from Eternity to here is always quick, or safely said its quick, instead of the struggle reflected by the other direction.

The path is always here and everywhere and the same holds true in Eternity, just remain focused forward when you’re ‘There.’

Stay or turn away.

This phrase works in both realms and between the two there is a path even though its visually absent and we really don’t go anywhere, but nonetheless the path I took was the path that was taken in return. This leads me to believe that ultimately the decision is ours to make, however I believe it’s a crapshoot and you start over, not one to try again, especially after Self-realization.

You can call that reincarnation, for it is a type of reincarnation without the predispositions or karma, because you restart from ground zero and then all that is learned in knowing is lost. So, who is being reincarnated then…..if it’s identical as the first birth?

Kurt

I can’t help you find any new books except the ones I read at the time my interest and research was in full bloom six years ago, and now I don’t have the interest to read any books.

Even further back I liked reading books written by or about Self-realized teachers, but I always fell back on my two teachers who I was absolutely sure of, and I can only refer them to you.

Nisargadatta Maharaj http://www.nisargadatta.net/books.html

Vethathiri Maharishi http://www.vethathiri.org/books/

Wish I could help you more.

Kurt
I have found many articles and periodical at http://www.pdfqueen.com pdf books and periodical search engine, but am not sure if it is all worth reading. Thank you for your advice.
